When Jonathan Moerdyk was an undergraduate chemistry major at Hope College, a small, liberal arts institution in Michigan, one of his professors gave him the opportunity to conduct scientific research that led to him being published before he entered graduate school.
In his first year on the faculty at Seton Hill, the roles have reversed for Moerdyk, an assistant professor of chemistry. Now, he is the mentor providing students with the opportunity to conduct research.
Students Jordan Waddell and Dustin Martin consider themselves fortunate to learn from Moerdyk, who, in January, was named to Forbes Magazine’s 30 Under 30 in Science. “I ran and told everybody, ‘My professor is on Forbes 30 Under 30,’” Waddell, a junior chemistry major, said. “This is monumental in my life.”
